Zecchinos, also known as a Ducat, proved to be extremely popular throughout the Mediterranean area for such an extended period due to the stability of the Venetian city state. In addition, their religious association was an appealing aspect of their popularity. As a consequence, the style was widely copied within the Western Mediterranean and parts of Asia Minor. This gold artifact was minted sometime between 1688 and 1694. It is hand set in an 18kt gold pendant.
